Call for Participants  for Training for Biosafety Officers (BSO)
Training on Laboratory Biosafety and Biosecurity
   
Dr Edith S. Tria, President,  Philippine Biosafety and Biosecurity Association announces the conduct of Training of Trainers  for BSO on November  2009. This will be  hosted by UP Manila  in partnership with PhBBA, and sponsored by  US Biosecurity Engagement Program  (BEP)  and conducted by  foreign experts coming from  CDC-USA, NIH-USA  and other  BEP partner institutions. The training will entail at least nine modules, each of which has a duration of 2 weeks, spread over a one-year period. This training program aims to  develop a pool of trainers that will undertake  continuing education and advocacy efforst on laboratory  biosafety and biosecurity  in the country.
 
Trainees are expected to be competent in the following areas after this training:
 
a. Biosafety and Biosecuirty  Risk Assessment
b. Biocontainment practices and procedures
c.  Use of PPE, and safety equipment
d.  Infectious substances transport
e.  Managemnet of transgenic materials
f.   Lab. vivarium
g.  Biocontainment facilities
h.  Lab. incident response  procedures
i.  Biosafety program management and biosecurity program management
j.  Regulatory farmework of transgenic materials  and DUR;
